It's All About Me!

Musings by Donna #29 My Mother Did This for Me

My Mother Did This for Me. She fed me when I was too small to hold a spoon and taught me how to tie my shoes. She gave me balloons and I almost flew away. She held my hand on my first day of school when I was scared to walk through the classroom door … even though my teacher had a pretty and welcoming smile.

My Mother Did This for Me. She pushed me on the swings – high so high as I squealed in delight. She kissed my boo-boos away when I fell and scraped my knee, my elbows, or when I banged my head as I tumbled off of my new, blue, two-wheeler bicycle.

My Mother Did This for Me. She tucked me into bed at night and sang these silly words: Good Night! Sleep Tight. Don’t let the bed bugs bite! There were never any bed bugs, but it made me giggle. She tucked my blankets around me with the promise that morning would be here soon.

My Mother Did This for Me. She gave me the Growing Up and Liking It book. (But, I’m not really sure I liked it much.) My mother made me get off the phone even though I was talking to my best boyfriend. She told me to clean my room and do my homework, to set the table and take care of my little sister.

My Mother Did This for Me. She watched me grow into a young woman who fell in love with her best boyfriend. She smiled when I had children of my own, which made hera  granny. Yes, my mother did this for me …

And I did it for my daughter.

And she does it for hers.

That’s just what mothers do!

*The idea was born from listening to an audio book by Tina Fey called, BossyPants.
