TidBits About Donna #34 Thanksgiving

Though I find it near impossible to honor the original sentiments of Thanksgiving, I can certainly celebrate my fortune of having a wonderful family and many good friends. Yesterday I spent the day with both. Kathy, Sam, and Kayla are family, but they are also friends. Kathy Pavlik Spinelli is my cousin. She and her husband, Sam, are from the Pittsburgh area – where most of my mother’s side of the family started out. Kathy and Sam landed in New Jersey quite by accident, the same as David and I did – a job.

Kathy lives about 45 minutes from me and I am so glad that she does. (The next closest family is about 10 hours away.) Often we celebrate lifes’ special moments together either at her house or mine. Yesterday was one of them. We celebrated with a feast of turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, peas, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower. For dessert there was the traditional pumpkin pie. There was also pecan cheesecake and carrot cake to choose from. But nobody chose. We each sampled small bits of all of the sweet offerings.

Lynne and Alan, close friends of Kathy and Sam’s, traveled over the river – the Hudson River – from Brooklyn with their daughter, Allegra to join in the festivities at the Spinelli home.

Together we made memories.
