On School #3 Anchor-bodies vs Antibodies

Disclaimer:  The names in this musing are changed to protect the “infamous.”

As Keiko used her orange-scented hand sanitizer, she explained its benefits to her seat mate, Martez. “The ‘anchor-bodies’ keep you safe and fight the flu virus,” she said. I smiled as I listened to the health lesson from this 6 year-old. Her mommy and daddy have obviously been discussing health and safety with her. I loved her interpretation, but the teacher in me could not be supressed.

“Keiko,” I said. “I think you mean antibodies. That’s what helps to fight germs in your body.” She looked at me as if I had no clue what I was talking about and with renewed determination attempted to explain ‘anchor bodies’ to me. Again, I gently corrected her.

Finally, exasperated, she looked at me and said, “You’re right!”

Ahhh, I felt relieved. My teaching skills remain intact.

Then with all seriousness, she looked at me and said, “Anti-bodies . . . well, that’s just another way to say it.”
