Another year is ending.
Departing soft and gently.
Snowflakes drift from the clouds above.
Covering the ground with a fresh newness.
Making the word white.
Quiet prevails.
‘Til midnight . . .

Then, horns, kazoos, and blowouts
Firecrackers and pots and pans
And happy voices ring in the new
The unexpected
As a new year is embraced.

I ponder
And wonder
What joys
And sorrows
It will bring.
